GB Team Competition News
Aquatics
Three finals involving GB athletes took place. Sarah Paschoud (SEA) swam excellently to take 6th place in the women’s 100m backstroke. Having set a personal best in the preliminaries she again set a new personal mark with a time of 1.55.92.
The men’s relay performed well and were unlucky not to medal as they finished fourth in a time of 2.27.64.
Highlight of the day was the women’s 4 x 50m freestyle relay who swam exceptionally well as a squad. Taking over in third place Zoe Kane (GRA) swam a great last leg to bring the GB team home in second in 2.59.94.
Badminton
Completed their divisioning competition with all the athletes playing well.
Basketball
The women’s squad played two divisioning games losing to Serbia and drawing with the USA. They have been place in a division for finals with Serbia, Tunisia and the USA. Their first competition match is tomorrow against Serbia.
The men’s squad had a mixed day in the classification rounds losing to Poland but beating the Bahamas. The men are also in a division of four for the main competition alongside Australia, the Bahamas and the Philippines.
Bowling
Finished their divisioning events with the squad performing well above their normal averages. They will compete in the team event tomorrow.
Equestrian
The equestrian team spent the day being matched with horses which went well. Divisioning events start tomorrow.
Football
11-a-side
Played two strong games to beat Turkey 4-0 and China2 3-0.
5-a-side Male
In a tough divisioning group GB came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Monaco and lost 0-3 to Tanzania.
5-a-side Female
Played well but against weak opposition to beat Kazakhstan 6-0 in their first divisioning game.
Golf
The golfers had their first practice round and all played excellently. All are delighted with the course at the Tianma Country club. They play their first divisioning rounds tomorrow.
Gymnastics
Artistic
The male squad had their first day’s training of their China campaign which was extremely successful. Their classification competition starts tomorrow.
Rhythmic
The classification events went well for the GB squad. Lizzie Williams (SOU) is likely to be in a tough group as she is one of only four Level 4 competitors. The squad were pleased to meet UK Minister for Disabled People, Ann Maguire who visited the gymnastics venue.
Sailing
The squad spent the day familiarising themselves with the boats they will be using for the competition. Divisioning races start tomorrow for Levels 1 and 2 in the morning and level 3 in the afternoon.
Table Tennis
The table tennis squad all played their first divisioning matches that went very well. The facility at the Minhang arena is first class having hosted the World Championships in 2005.
