David James at London Heathrow to Send-off Special Olympics Team GB to Shanghai for The world’s biggest sporting event of 2007

England goalkeeper David James joined top athletes representing Special Olympics Team GB 2007 at London Heathrow on 26 September before flying to Shanghai to represent their country in the 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games, the world’s largest sporting event of the year. This is not the Paralympics!

Special Olympics ambassador David James and SOGB Chairman Lawrie McMenemy MBE joined the country’s top learning disabled athletes for a photo shoot. They gave words of support to the athletes, before the Great Britain delegation of 211 people flew on a sponsored Virgin Atlantic flight.

The 159 Special Olympics Team GB 2007 athletes will be competing against 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 169 countries at the World Summer Games 2-11 October 2007. The event includes 40,000 volunteers, 3,500 event officials and thousands of families, spectators and journalists from every continent.
